Summary

The engine knows who A/C Medic is and likes them. Named in 50 of 50 answers, described as reliable and well reviewed every time, with the canonical phone number correct throughout.

Two problems sit underneath that. The retired "over 20 years" claim is still being told to prospects, sourced from a directory rather than the site we fixed. And the entire plumbing side of the business is invisible: 10 of 10 identity answers call them an HVAC contractor.

One caveat on that rate: an error can persist in an engine after the source is fixed, and it can also be re-seeded by a registry nobody thought to check. So it measures what AI is telling people today, which is the right thing to measure, but it is not a clean audit of the sources themselves.

The retired "over 20 years in business" claim is still live in AI answers, sourced from a third-party directory, not the site

Evidence
hvacservice.io states verbatim: serving Mebane, Durham, and the surrounding North Carolina communities for over two decades. Cited in 10/10 identity answers and the single most-cited source in the run. The site was corrected 2026-08-21 and reads "Serving Durham Since 2017" (verified live 2026-08-22).
Impact
The on-site fix did not reach the source AI actually reads. The engine surfaces the contradiction itself (A/C Medic's own business listings describe it as operating for more than 20 years, while the BBB lists the business start date as April 1, 2017), which reads as a business being inconsistent about its own age.
Action
Correct the tenure claim on hvacservice.io, Birdeye, PropJump, LocalGTM and BizHwy. Re-run this test afterwards to confirm it propagates.

BI-2HighScope

Plumbing is invisible to AI. Every identity answer describes an HVAC contractor only

Evidence
10/10 answers: A/C Medic, LLC is a locally owned, family-operated HVAC contractor serving Mebane, Durham… No answer mentions plumbing, drains, water heaters or leak detection. The site carries six plumbing pages (drain cleaning, toilet repair and installation, plumbing installation, leak detection, water heater repair, water heater replacement).
Impact
Half the service line cannot be recommended by an answer engine. A homeowner asking an AI for a Mebane plumber will never be shown this client.
Action
GBP is already correct: it carries plumbing services with plumber as a secondary category. The gap is off-GBP, so update the directory listings, which are what AI actually reads. Confirm the site's plumbing pages are internally linked and indexed.

BI-5HighAccuracy / Privacy

The NC electrical licensing board still has the owner's home address on file as the business address, and it is propagating into AI

Evidence
NCBEEC license SP.PH.38607 (Special Restricted Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning; active, expires 2027-07-08) lists a [residential address withheld] in Mebane, "last confirmed Jul 23, 2026", via a site that mirrors the NCBEEC registry. The NC Secretary of State record has already been corrected: Bizapedia's live page, refreshed 2026-08-22, shows principal and mailing address 105 South 4th Street #B. City-Data still mirrors the old value, and a 2025 neighbourhood post reports a package addressed to the business found at the residential address.
Impact
The Secretary of State record was fixed and the licensing board was not, so an authoritative live source keeps re-seeding the old address into every aggregator that mirrors registry data. There is also a privacy dimension: a residential address is publicly published as the business location and is now being repeated by an answer engine.
Action
Correct the address on the NCBEEC record — the upstream fix. Then let the mirrors age out rather than chasing City-Data and the rest individually. Verify on the NCBEEC site directly before filing.

Review count understated by roughly 20 (may also be propagation lag, see BI-5)

Evidence
The engine reports roughly 4.8–4.9 stars across around 138–145 aggregated reviews and 100 to 145 depending on the platform. Actual: 164 reviews at 4.91, synced 2026-08-19. The rating is correct.
Impact
Undersells real social proof at the moment of recommendation. The client's own site quotes 147, 150 and "more than 150" in different places, so the stale number partly originates with us.
Action
Update the site's review-count references, then the directories. Never hard-code a count that will age.

The Mebane base is being framed as a liability for Durham customers

Evidence
Its base is in Mebane rather than Durham, so confirm travel fees and appointment availability. And: For a Durham emergency, Alternative Aire or Hay's may have a logistical advantage because both are located on Hillsborough Road, whereas A/C Medic is based in Mebane.
Impact
Not a factual error, but it converts the strongest competitor comparison into a reason to choose someone else. Directly relevant to the locked Durham-first on-page strategy.
Action
Make Durham coverage and response time explicit on the site and in listings. Feeds the planned Mebane page decision.

theacmedic.com is cited in 3 of 5 prompts. hvacservice.io is cited in all 5, and twice per answer on logistics. Also heavily cited: Birdeye, MapQuest, PropJump, BuildZoom, BizHwy, LocalGTM, ServiceAgent, Nextdoor, BBB and Trane.
Impact
The brand is being described in aggregators' words. That is why BI-1 and BI-3 persist after the site was fixed: correcting the site does not correct the sources.

What the engine gets right

Worth saying plainly, because it is most of the picture. The canonical phone number 919-694-0075 is correct in every answer that gives one, with no call-tracking number leaking into AI. The 4.9 rating is correct. Family-owned, locally owned, Mebane-based, Trane dealer, and the Durham / Mebane / Orange County service area are all accurate. Sentiment is consistently positive, with one answer noting a small number of service and communication complaints, which is fair.

Method notes

Geo-anchoring every prompt was necessary: unrelated "AC Medic" businesses exist in Las Vegas and Phoenix. No out-of-market namesake appeared in any of the 50 answers, so the anchoring worked.

Aliases had to include "A/C Medic", "AC Medic" and "acmedic" separately, because the matcher treats them as different names. A config with only one form would have under-reported.

Every rate on this page has a published denominator: 5 prompts, 10 runs each, one engine, one date. These are appearance rates, not rankings — there is no such thing as a rank inside an AI answer.
